Tech Tip: Turn off Auto Formatting in Word

If you have created a numbered or bulleted list in Word, you know how it automatically assumes how to format the next line.  This can be helpful or frustrating depending on what you are trying to accomplish.  You actually have control over these features.  Here is how to change them.

PC - Word 2010 - Click File > Options > Proofing > Auto Correct Options >AutoFormat as You Type -
PC - Word 2003 - Click Tools > Auto Correct Options > Autoformat as You Type
Mac - Word 2003 - Click Tools > Auto Correct Options > Autoformat As You Type


Then UNCHECK "Automatic Bulleted Lists" and "Automatic Numbered Lists"
