Imagine smelling fresh baked treats all day long in your classroom. Lindsey Marik, Food Science teacher at Brenham High School, cooks almost daily with her students. During the last three years she has embraced the use of technology while teaching about cookware, food safety, and healthy recipes. Her technology journey started with two desktop computers, moved to laptops, then iPads, and hopefully, soon will include Chromebooks. Her students used the Educreations iPad app to evaluate the purchase of cookware. Evaluation is the highest level of Bloom's Taxonomy, so students had fun while stretching their brains! Mrs. Marik has attended many Technology Coffee Break sessions during the last few years and earned an iPad for her classroom. She uses Google forms to collect data from students related to classroom procedures, cooking groups, and recipes. She has found that students are quickly learning how to respond on the forms and that allows her to pass around the single iPad for student responses. Talk about flexibility! Technology and Food Science is a recipe for success thanks to Mrs. Marik.
