Web Tool Wednesday: Google Keep "Keeps" Getting Better!

Update: 2/28/17
This is an update to a huge blog post we created back in May of 2016.  We are updating it today to include an amazing new update with Google Keep via your Google Docs!  This new update to Google docs will allow you to open a Google Keep side-window via your Google Document tools:

The GIF above is from an excellent blog post that goes in depth about the new update!

This new update is excellent for both educators and students!  Now you can easily drag and drop notes/list from your Google keep into your Google Docs with the very easy to use drag and drop feature.
  • You could have a shared classroom note with your students and then when you are ready to compile, simply drag and drop into your google document.
  • I love to create list!  I'm technically a list guy!  This would be a wonderful addition to my Google Docs because I can now drag in my list and utilize all the functions of a Google Document.
  • I take so many verbal notes in my car while driving, or walking around my campuses with Google Keep using the talk-to-text feature.  Now I can take my long Keep notes and drag them into a Google Doc to edit and format.

Orginial Post from May 2016:

What is Google Keep, and why has it been kept such a great secret from so many educators?

I've always used old-school sticky notes, Google task notes, and even tried Evernote for a short time (HERE is a write-up on why you should use Keep over Evernote).  As a GAFE district, I've always looked for a simpler way of taking quick notes, making list, or keeping up with my reminders.  Google Keep is the tool for all that!

I love using it as a desktop app on my PC, using it to record notes on my smartphone, and saving important links via the Google Keep Chrome Extension.  Finally, all my notes, lists, and reminders in one synced location!

Here is the write-up from Google:
Quickly capture what's on your mind and share those thoughts with friends and family.Quickly capture what's on your mind and share those thoughts with friends and family. Speak a voice memo on the go and have it automatically transcribed. Grab a photo of a poster, receipt or document and easily organize or find it later in search. Capture what’s on your mind

• Add notes, lists and photos to Google Keep. Pressed for time? Record a voice memo and Keep will transcribe it so you can find it later. Share ideas with friends and family
• Easily plan that surprise party by sharing your Keep notes with others and collaborating on them in real time. Find what you need, fast
• Color code and add labels to notes to quickly organize and get on with your life. If you need to find something you saved, a simple search will turn it up. Always within reach
• Keep works on your phone, tablet, computer and Android wearables. Everything you add syncs across all of your devices, so your thoughts are always with you. The right note at the right time
• Need to remember to pick up some groceries? Set a location-based reminder to pull up your grocery list right when you get to the store. Available everywhere
• Try Google Keep on the web at http://keep.google.com and on your Android phone by downloading the app at http://g.co/keep. What's new: Better organization
• Organize your notes by adding labels to them. Labels are quickly accessible in the main menu.
• Add recurring reminders to never miss regular to-dos.

What's also great about Google Keep, is that it works offline.  When you reconnect to wifi, it will automatically update your list.  Some more added bonuses:

-Works great as a download on your desktop.
-Also, has a great android and IOS app.  All your info is synced together across devices.  So now you can have your notes on the go!
-Great Chrome extension to remember websites or links.
