Next week is Bullying Awareness Week and the theme is "Stand Up! (to bullying)."
Two of the objectives for the week include recognizing that bullying is a serious issue that has damaging effects on our society and recognizing that bullying is NOT an acceptable part of how we treat each other. The idea that bullying is "just part of growing up" doesn't fly. Every person has the right to feel safe, especially at school. It is important that we educate our students and make sure that they know that any type of bullying is never acceptable and they need to tell an adult if it ever happens to them.
Cyberbullying, which has devastating effects on its victims, is usually done in private so parents may never know that it is happening to their child.
