Making Connections Monday: Colonial Day at Brenham Middle School #BMSwired

On Tuesday, October 15, Brenham Middle School fifth graders celebrated Colonial Day in social studies classes. Fifth grade social studies teachers Kaleigh Kankel, Cheryl Middleton, Karen Rhodes and Jean Ann Simmons designed special activities for the students to experience as they rotated through stations. In Mrs. Rhodes' class, students protested British taxes and re-enacted the Boston Tea Party. Students in Mrs. Middleton’s station participated in several outdoor games similar to those that were played during Colonial times. Mrs. Simmons taught students how to write with a quill pen and students in Miss Kankel’s class experienced taxation without representation. The day was full of excited students participating in engaging historical activities. This annual event is a favorite for both students and staff members at Brenham Middle School!
