Making Connections Monday: Meet Angela Moore, Brenham Cubs Special Olympics Coordinator #BHSwired #IChooseBrenham

Angela Moore, Adapted Physical Education Teacher and Brenham Cubs Special Olympics Coordinator, has no trouble getting her steps in every day! Angela travels to all six Brenham ISD campuses and works with children from ages three to twenty one. She is a graduate of Brenham High School, Blinn College, and Texas A&M University and has been teaching adapted physical education for over a decade in Brenham ISD.

“I absolutely love being a part of Special Olympics,” Angela said. Angela is currently certified to coach Athletics, Bocce, Basketball, Bowling, Powerlifting, Motor Activities Training Program and Unified Sports. In addition, she is a a certified Competition & Games Director for Special Olympics of Texas. In November of last year, Angela’s team earned five gold medals, five silver medals, and three bronze medals in Area Bowling. The team followed up with five gold medals and four silver medals in Basketball Individual Skills in January.

Brenham High School seniors will have an exciting opportunity to work with Angela next year for an elective credit course called Peers Assisting Students with Disabilities. This course is designed to give students experience working in the field of special education as a peer tutor and role model in the adapted physical education setting. Students will have the opportunity to experience the teaching process, learn more about disabling conditions, and develop knowledge and skills to promote wellness, sports training, and community recreation activities for all abilities.

The Brenham Cubs Special Olympics team will compete in a track meet on Saturday, April 2 in Conroe and is already preparing for the Spring Games in College Station on April 22-23. If you would like to get involved, Angela is always looking for volunteers to come work with athletes during practices and competitions. Volunteers between the ages of eight and fourteen need an adult to accompany, but volunteers fifteen years and older can come on their own. In addition, the Brenham team is in need of new uniforms and equipment such as canopy tents and mini javelins, so financial support is always welcome. Contact Angela at amoore@brenhamk-12.net or 979-277-3886 for more information on how you can be a part of this wonderful program.
