T-TESS Thursday - Preparing Students for a Teacher Observation

Having someone come into your classroom to observe often reminds me of having guests come over to your house. As a parent you are hoping your kids show their best and at the very least you hope they don't do something to embarrass you.
In somewhat of a similar setting, you want your students to be natural, but you also don’t want them to feel TOO comfortable!
Talk to your students prior to an observation, letting them know how to behave when visitors are in the room. Let them know know your classroom expectations. Teach the students to make any visitor that comes to their classroom feel welcome.  Let the students know this is their chance to show how smart they are.

After a visitor leaves your classroom, thank your students for being so on-task and attentive–let them know they made you and themselves look good.
