Tech Tip Thursday: Your One FREE Place for All Types of Texts
How many times have you been looking for a text to pair with a reading you are doing in your classroom? How many times do you wish your students had background knowledge of something you are about to teach? Look no further because Commonlit is the one place for FREE texts (article, passages, stories, poems, paired texts, and more). I was talking to one of our English teachers, Mrs. Calvert, and she was telling me how she uses Commonlit to find texts to pair with what they are reading in class. This is a FREE site (yes, can you believe it?). There are reading passages for grades 3-12. Find the passage you want, share with your students, and then track their progress.
On the site, you can browse by genre, book you are reading, grade level, literary device, text set, and theme.
Commonlit has so many great features that I don’t know where to start. It is an English teacher's paradise.
Here are some of the features:
- Adjust font size of text
- Paired text options to the passage
- Download as a pdf
- Guiding questions
- Assessment multiple choice questions
- Discussion questions
- Look up words in passage with dictionary
- Story can be read aloud to student
- Translate text
- Highlight text
These features are great for helping students improve their reading skills at any level. This is an awesome website that I am so glad Mrs. Calvert shared with me. Check out their motto--
