Wow Wednesday: Google Expeditions AR at BHS

Google Expeditions AR at BHS

Friday, February 16th, Brenham ISD was selected to participate in Google Expeditions Pioneer AR program. A little bit about Google Expeditions:

Expeditions VR was introduced in 2015 and allowed teachers to take their classes on virtual field trips, immersing students in experiences. This has rolled out globally on Android and iOS, and thus far, over 2 million students have gone on VR Expeditions.

Expeditions AR is becoming first available to schools through the Pioneer Program in the fall of 2017. Using certain Android phones with AR technology developed by Google, teachers can bring digital objects into the classroom.

Our teachers at Brenham High School arrived early on Friday morning to receive training on how Google Expeditions works. Then teachers brought their classes into the lecture room at BHS to teach them their content using Augmented Reality with Google Expeditions.

Over 8 teachers participated and over 457 students experienced this awesome program. The students and teachers explored digital objects from WWI, WWII, DaVinci, DNA & RNA, Fish, Circulatory System, and more. The students and teachers were excited to experience this not released yet app. Their reactions were “wow,” “OMG, this is cool,” “no way,” “Come look at this,” “This is awesome,” and more.
