Must Know Monday: Special Characters in Google Docs

Sometimes, a student asks you a question about Google Docs, and you should know the answer, but you don’t. What do you do? Well, I “Googled” the answer. Thank you to the high school student who asked me a question and inspired me to write this post.

This is real simple, and you may already know how to do this trick. However, for those of you who don’t know about special characters, then you may be excited to find this out.

Have you ever needed a special character in Google Docs before? Like a degree sign? Or an emoji? A ½ fraction sign? An upside down question mark?

It is simple to add in your Doc. Go to insert, special characters, and then search for the symbol you are looking for to put in your document.

1. Put your cursor where you want to insert symbol.

2. Click “Insert” at the top.

3. Click “Special Characters” from the drop down menu.

4. Search for character or draw it.

5. Click enter and close out of box when you have your symbol.

Yes, you can even draw the symbol.
