Welcome Wednesday: Guest Blogger- Amanda Dismukes Discusses PreCalculus Teachers (Cindy Markos & Amanda Stolz) Making Worksheets Interactive and Using Small Group Collaboration

Tired of hearing the bad rap worksheets get in education these days? Then do something about it... because YOU CAN!

Brenham High School PreCalculus teachers Cindy Markos and Amanda Stolz broke up (actually cut up) the monotony of a traditional worksheet, while bringing collaborative thinking, competition, and much needed practice, into their class period.

They took practice problems, written on a single page, cut them into individual problems, created 6 groups of 4 desks in the classroom, drew squares on their white board, and rewarded correct answers with post-its. If the students weren't successful the first, second, or third time, their teacher had the opportunity to work one on one with them in order to clear up their misunderstandings. Small group collaboration in a secondary math classroom is when you know you've hit the jackpot.

  1. This is so awesome! I absolutely love that the students get multiple opportunities to work the problem and get additional instruction, without a grade being attached so that they can focus on truly learning the concept!! So refreshing!!!!
