Bring WORDLE Into Your Classroom!

Engage Your Students with Wordle!

This week, during our monthly technology "Geek Week" professional development sessions, we are showing teachers great ways to incorporate the game, Wordle, into their classroom instruction.  Wordle is a great way to bring in vocabulary practice/review, word family recognition, vowel/consonant practice, etc.

Wikipedia description:  "Wordle is a web-based word game created by Josh Wardle. Players have six attempts to guess a five-letter word, with feedback given for each guess in the form of colored tiles indicating when letters match or occupy the correct position."

Here are some notes from one of our Geek Week slides explaining Wordle:

The original version of Wordle can be found on the New York Times website, HERE.  You can only play once per day.

Classroom Implementation:
We already have a few district teachers taking 5 - 10 minutes of their morning to play the original version of Wordle with their students.  Students have the opportunity to provide 5 letter words as possibilities for the Wordle of the day.  Do you have multiple class periods throughout the day?  Play Wordle Unlimited listed below instead of the original Wordle.  In PreK - 1st grade.... use the Wordle game listed below on Flippity.net to create your own 3 or 4 letter words that are more grade level appropriate.

Do you like Wordle?  Try these alternatives:
  • Global (geography version of Wordle)
  • Nerdle (math version of Wordle)
  • Dordle (elar)
  • Quordle (elar)
  • Worldle (geography version of Wordle)
  • Wordle Unlimited (Updated Link) (elar) Play Wordle over and over with this awesome variation of the original game.  Have multiple classroom periods throughout the day?  Skip the original and hop into this version to play unlimited times throughout the day.
These activities should give any Wordle fan a great start!  Now, if you want to take your Wordle obsession even further, and engage a bunch of different learners and grade levels with more specific content / vocabulary words.... try creating your own Wordle game below using Flippity.net:

Another thing that's great about the Flippity version of Wordle is that your words don't need to be 5 letter words!  They can be 3 letters or more!  Great for our early learners (prek-2nd).

And, if all this wasn't enough Wordle Awesomeness... check out the three following links.  These links will take you to some excellent Wordle resources and activities to complete your Wordle neardness:
Enjoy!!!!
