Top 4 Connected Google Tools You Should Try Right Now!

We LOVE our Google Tools, Apps, Extensions, and Accounts within our school district!  We've been a Google For EDU school district for almost 10 years now.  We all use the typically (OG) google connected tools, such as: Google Docs, Google Slides, Google Sheets, and Google Forms.  But what about the lesser used Connected Google Apps?

These 4 underutilized Google tools are worth highlighting, and hopefully you'll read this blog and then go try them with your students and/or staff!

Way back before I started using Google Slides for literally everything I create... I used Google Drawings.  Google Drawings is a one page publisher for all your needs in creating logos, graphics, infographics, posters, and much more!  Google Drawings can be used basically the same way as Google Slides, however, you are only working with this one page.  Also, this page can be set-up and resized at the beginning to best meet your creative needs.  (File - Page Setup)

One of the most underutilized Google Tools, in my opinion, is definitely Google My Maps.  Whether you are using this tool for school and/or personal use... it's a gamechanger to all my map/geography folks out there!  I've seen teachers make year long custom maps highlighting everything they learned about throughout the year.  (Example:  You read a book about a village in Japan, add the location to your year long content map).

Google My Maps is also great for personal use when you are planning to go on a vacation.  Create custom routes, drag and move the "blue mapped road" for custom navigation routes.  Add stopping points or interesting areas to your custom map, and then bring it up in your Google Maps when heading out on a road trip.

If you need a great place to start building student portfolios, classroom websites, etc... look no further than your very own Google Drive.  From your drive, you can create a brand new Google Site.  Easy to create, user friendly, and this site can be tied to a domain if you choose to purchase one.

Last, but not least, check out Google Jamboard!  A lot like Google Slides and Google Drawings, but much different in features.  Use sticky notes to highlight information, or conduct quick assessments (entrance/exit tickets) for your students.  Freely draw on each slide area.  Provide a template to each student or have all your students collaborating on one Google Jamboard together.
