Making Connections Monday: Board Unanimously Approves New Hires to @BrenhamISD #BISDconnect


Brenham ISD has three new staff members joining the administrative team. A new Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction, a Director of Communication and Special Projects, and a new Brenham High School Principal were hired after School Board members unanimously approved the district's personnel recommendation during the regularly monthly meeting of the Board of Trustees last night.

Joseph Chandler, Principal of Brenham High SchoolJoseph Chandler earned his undergraduate degree from St. Meinrad College in Indiana and a Master’s Degree from the University of Houston. He began his teaching career in Brownsville, Texas, and moved to Houston several years later, working as a special education teacher and department head at Alief Elsik High School. Mr. Chandler went on to become an assistant principal at Alief Hastings High School. In 2008, he became the Associate Principal at Willowridge High School. Two years later he became principal of Garcia Middle School. Joe is a native of Campbellsville, Kentucky. He and his wife, Karem, are the proud parents of two children: Mauricio, 12, and Camila, 7. This school year marks his nineteenth year in education and his third year as the Principal of Willowridge High School in Fort Bend ISD, a district of over 70,000 students.

Dr. Jamey Johnson, Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum & InstructionDr. Jamey Johnson comes to Brenham ISD with 14 years of experience in Education. She is currently the Executive Director of Curriculum and Instruction for Tyler Independent School District in Tyler, Texas, a district with over 18,000 students. She received a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Baylor University, and Masters and Doctorate degrees from Tarleton State University. Her current certifications include: elementary reading, principal and superintendent. She has been married to Robert Johnson for 16 years and enjoys spending time with family and friends.

Jessica Johnston, Director of Public Relations and Special ProjectsJessica graduated from Texas Tech University in 1999 and immediately began teaching in the Dallas area. She was honored as Forestridge Elementary’s Teacher of the Year in Richardson ISD in 2001 before moving to Brenham with her husband. Jessica taught 5th grade science at Brenham Middle School for four years where she was Science Department Chair from 2003-2006. Jessica spent three years as the Marketing Manager for L.F. Manufacturing, Inc. in Waycross, Georgia before returning to Brenham in 2009. At that time, she became Campus Technology Specialist at Brenham Elementary School. She was again honored as Teacher of the Year before accepting a position as District Instructional Technology Specialist in 2010. Jessica has served Brenham ISD staff and students in pre-kindergarten through twelfth grade for the last six years and has built relationships on every Brenham ISD campus. Jessica is currently enrolled in Sam Houston State University to earn a master’s degree in Instructional Leadership. She is the mother of two boys, a people-driven educator, and a passionate believer in stakeholder engagement through positive communication.

These key positions help to complete the BISD administrative team for the 2016-2017 school year. Because Brenham ISD aspires to create collaborative global learners, adding qualified staff is necessary to build capacity and cultivate positive relationships to transform the classroom and learning experience for all students. We are extremely pleased to have these strong educators join the administrative staff to help Brenham ISD move forward as a premier district and a become a district of destination for its families.
