Can't SAVE to a YouTube Playlist?
While working with one of my elementary teachers the other day, we came to the realization that, due to a recent update with YouTube's privacy settings, certain videos can't be saved in a playlist. The following message is what will pop up when you click on the grayed out "+ SAVE" button beneath the video.
This is the message you will receive. |
Here is the information from YouTube in regards to their "made for kids" content:
"To comply with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and other laws, certain features may be restricted or turned off on content that’s set as made for kids.
What is “made for kids” content?
Per our announcement in September 2019, we’ve made some changes to better protect kids and their privacy, and to address concerns raised by the U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC). If their content is child-directed, creators are required to set their video or channel’s audience as “made for kids.”
According to the FTC’s guidance on the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), a video is made for kids if:
- Children are the primary audience.
- Children are not the primary audience, but the video is still directed to children based on factors such as the subject matter of the video, whether the video has an emphasis on kids characters, themes, toys or games, and more."
HACK Time:
Follow these steps to save ALL videos to your YouTube playlists no matter how they are marked:
- Search for your video. The videos matching this search criteria will populate below. Find your video, but DON'T click on it to bring it up.
- Hover over the video preview and a "hidden 3 line button" will appear to the right, click here and you'll be able to save this video to your playlist.
Here is a video I created to assist in this hack:
